2013 Sonic, 1.4 turbo, 6MT, 8500 miles.
They've got $13,985 on the tag. Used to be $15,985. Fair market is about $13,500. It's been there for nearly 3 months (!). How low should I offer? I was thinking 13 flat, but that might be too easy...

See how low they go. Haven't been to suburban Chevy so I don't know if they negotiate the price much.

Make an appointment, when you get there just lay your cards out:
"I have watched this on the lot for three months, and if I like the car I will walk out today for $12k". For some reason I think you could make it out for $12,8 fairly easily.

If they balk, leave your number and walk the fudge out of there. They'll either chase you down or call you in 2ish days. If not, they probably won't remember you, so try it again at a slightly higher price.

I would say offer 12, since it's been sitting they might bite, but hey the worst they can say is no...

You will have to fight Jayhawke for king of the sonics if you get it.

My parents bought a car from Suburban and when they first went in the sales person told them "the price is our best price we can offer bla bla bla" but they did exactly what AthomSfere said: they put everything on the table and left. They called them a few days later with the "I talked to my manager and we don't normally do this but we can lower the price if you're still interested..."
Considering they've dropped the price already I doubt it's set in stone. Good luck!

Exactly! My guess though is they will try to meet in the middle at ~13, you counter 12.5 and they get you close to you closer to a steal of a deal.
If it hasn't sold for 3 months... Just remember its a good time to sell trucks and AWD things with the winter coming up.

The salesman already knows I'm on my way. I was thinking 13 or walk, but I might go lower. I test drive it last week, he knows I like it, but I also don't need to buy it. So I'm thinking I'm in a pretty good position

They're not a best price dealer. They initially listed it for nearly 16, and there's no way that's the best price

Isn't his an RS? If so, he's got me. Mines just an LT, nothing special.

My thoughts exactly. If I don't end up buying it, I've got a 99 XJ that I have no problem daily driving. I'm in it to win it. And walk out with a monthly payment...

Mine's a modified RS. He's got some work to do...

Dooo eeeet.
I'd probably just offer $12,500 and threaten to walk if they say no.

Agreed. That's just what they told them when they first arrived. Hopefully they don't pull the same stuff with you!

I like this car a whole lot. I don't know why but it seems life a fun, peppy little car. It's even better with a manual.
